Welcome To Band

This week is a big week for the band students. Yes, many students if not all of them have been busy this summer preparing for band by themselves, with friends and during summer rehearsals but Monday they took a big step – it is band camp and the beginning on band. For freshman, this week is a big step in preparation for high school. At the end of this week, all of these students will know approximately 150 other students in all grades of their respective high school and will become part of the band family.

Every band student will react to band camp and the 12 hour practices differently. Some will finish a day looking forward to the next day while others may be a little tired after the day’s events and even a little frustrated on wondering “can I learn all this music and drill”. Some might feel frustrated later in the week while others won’t feel it at all. All of these feelings are completely normal.

With that said, please ask your students how their day was. The students will need your continued support and it is important for you to be encouraging their efforts everyday whether, in their eyes, they have had a “good day” or “bad day”. Will the show be a fine tuned work of art by the end of the week? Absolutely not but watch as these students will grow and come together as one unit over the next few months. It truly is an amazing thing!!!

Remember that band can be an extremely rewarding experience – not only for your child but for the entire family. Get involved, support the students and the band directors/staff, come watch the end of practice, get your questions answered, etc. Your child will love to see you participate.

Lastly, encourage your child to get a good night’s rest and drink plenty of fluids before, during and after rehearsals/competitions throughout the season.

We hope to see you at a future event, practice, booster meeting, etc. and we hope your child has a great week!!!
