Uniform, Pit Crew, Prop and Flag Help Needed
Couldn’t help at Verizon or missed us at band camp? There are other areas that we need assistance with throughout the year especially during the marching band season. Several areas include uniforms, pit crew, prop help and flag help - see below.
Uniforms
At Nation Fort High School, we are looking for anyone who can help with the sewing of the uniforms. We could also use one person who can help print labels on a computer. If you are interesting in sewing for the Nation Ford High School Band, please contact Robin Witmer at 803-547-0374 or via email at rswitmer4@yahoo.com.
Prop Help
Everyone has heard about the Nation Ford High School show but have you heard about the props being made to compliment the show? Help is needed especially sewing/covering one of the props with cloth – sounds easy but it is going to be a big job. If you can assist, please contact Jamie Medlin at scmedlin@comporium.net.
Flag Sewing Help
Did you know many of the flags used in the show are created and put together by our own parents? Help is needed. While your child is practicing, please volunteer your time to help make flags for the Fort Mill High School Band. We need help with cutting out the patterns, pinning the material and sewing the flags. No experience is needed for cutting or pinning the material. During the shows, you will be able to see all your hard work being used by the color guard!!! So please come by and help if you can – contact Tammy Breedlove at breedloveinsc@gmail.com for more information.
Pit Crew
No, you won't be helping your favorite Nascar driver on Sunday but you will have the opportunity to do one better - help the students and band staff. The Pit Crew's main responsibility is to ensure the equipment gets to the venues in one piece for the band program - whether that is a home football game, a game across town or a competition. Other responsibilities include:
loading and unloading of the equipment on the truck
assist the students moving the equipment/props on and off the field during some band rehearsals, football games and competitions
build props for the show
drive a tractor trailer
pull a small trailer behind your vehicle
small repairs to the equipment
special tasks/jobs as requested by the band staff
line the field/parking lot
move just about anything you can imagine
No special requirements are needed besides a great attitude, being flexible - as you know, not everything goes to plan - and the interest to help the students achieve their goals. This is open to all parents and mature siblings and don't worry - you don't have to be a carpenter, engineer or a body builder. Can't make it to every event? That is ok - who can - but we can still use your help.
If you are interested in helping or just want to find out more about the Pit Crew, please contact your school's respective Pit Crew lead. Please include your name, phone number and email address.

As you can see, many of our volunteering opportunities involve sewing. If you or a family member can help out with any time in the sewing area or if you just don’t know where to reach out and assist with any area of the band program, please contact a board member, committee chairperson or the band director. We have opportunities for all!!!
