Local Students to Perform at Bowl Game

Thanks to their musical talents, two Fort Mill High School students are heading to San Antonio to perform this weekend.

Brandon Armstrong and Tanya Hunt, seniors at Fort Mill High School, were selected to join 91 high school musicians from across the nation in the All-American Band. The pair will perform, along with the other students, at the halftime show during the U.S. Army All-American Football Bowl in San Antonio Saturday, Jan. 5th game is on NBC and starts at 1 pm. Armstrong and Hunt auditioned for the honor last year, according to Band Director John Pruitt. And it was no surprise to hear they were selected, he said. "They are very motivated, and bright, gifted students," Pruitt said. Both students play clarinet.

In addition to being honored with a spot in the All-American Band, both students were selected for the South Carolina All-State band last year. It's an honor to have students from the district selected to join the All-American Band, said Nation Ford Band Director Martin Dickey, a former longtime director at FMHS. "Brandon Armstrong and Tanya Hunt making it into the U.S. Army All-American Band is just as big an honor as Chris Leak and Reggie Bush making it onto the All-American Football Team," Dickey said.

Auditions for next year's All American Band will be held early in 2008 and will be open to juniors.
